Happy Couple gives to Angels Above

Lynn and Derek Gettings' happy day has made many children happy as well.  In lieu of wedding favors, they made a generous donation to Angels Above.  Lynn and her family are long time supporters of Angels Above.

We thank you and wish you many happy years together!

An Angel's Birthday

June 10th would have been Kim Horman's 36th birthday. Every June we honor her with a Luau for the children at the hospital.  This year our party will be held on the 13th. The annual Luau is very special to Sue because it brings back wonderful memories of Kim's Make-A-Wish trip to Maui.

This year Angels Above is looking to family and friends of Kimberly to help fund the Luau by making a $20 donation for a balloon which will be released in a Birthday Balloon Bouquet in front of the Angels Above Store on June 10th at 12pm.

To participate, please make your donation through PayPal on our website and mark "balloon" in the description, or by check mailed to our P.O. Box, or stop by the Angels Above Store.
We must receive your donation by
   June 8th

Angels Icon

Spring 2012

I recently received one of those dreaded pledge drive phone calls  and I asked them how much of my money the organization would actually get.  They told me 12%.  I was shocked.

Did you know Angels Above consistently averages 99.65% of all money raised goes to the children.  This is something we are very proud of.  Even with that, we are constantly trying to improve the way we help the children and their families.   Here are a few of the changes we'll be making this year:

1. our website will be getting a whole new look thanks to our website guru, Dave Moebius;
2. the Twilight Affair will feature a live auction;
3. the Angels Above Store is now able to accept donations of large furniture; and most importantly
4. we've started a new process called The Angels Above Portfolio of Families which will allow us to personally be able to do more for the children and their families outside of the hospital setting (see the story in this edition featuring Peter Labranche).

Maybe with these new changes, we will average 99.9%!!

Warmest Regards,
Mary Beth Brunelle

Michael Celebrates with his

End of Chemo Party!

By Anne Pizzano and Sacha Field

Ellison 18 had good reason to celebrate on April 18th. For the past eight months, Michael Crouse was a patient at MassGeneralHospital for Children where he and his family spent many sleepless nights battling cancer.

With much courage and determination, Michael finished his treatment for osteosarcoma with his family and medical team cheering by his side.

An avid Bruins fan, Michael chose his celebratory colors for his party to honor his hometown team.  Angels Above made the day complete by granting his wish for an authentic Boston Bruins jersey. Michael's smile became permanent that day!

Peter is a member of the
Angels Above Family

By Marilyn Gifford and Eva Mintz

Our very special patient, Peter Labranche, is a delightful, charming boy with a mischievous grin. His indomitable spirit in spite of multiple hospitalizations due to chronic health issues is an inspiration to us all.

During his time at Mass General Hospital for Children, Peter and his family have won over the hearts of Angels Above. His cheerful enjoyment of festive holiday parties and visits is clearly mirrored in his sparkling blue eyes and infectious laugh. Peter has greatly benefited from the kind generosity and personal touch from Angels Above. This past November, Peter and his family were honored guests at the annual Twilight Affair. All would agree that Peter was the prince of the party!

Peter is now continuing his special friendship with Angels Above by becoming one of the very first patients of the new Angels Above Family. This relationship will extend far beyond the walls of Mass General Hospital for Children including invitations to events, parties and holiday celebrations. Peter can look forward to enjoying these exciting new opportunities for fun and socialization with his usual zest for life.

Sue Honored at 10th Annual
Twilight Affair

Our annual Twilight Affair, held last November, was an evening to remember.  With the help and support of many generous people, we raised $18,000.00 for the children!

We are truly grateful to all who attended and made the evening a huge success.  We were very happy to have several patients - Pat, Tiffany and Peter - and their families join us.  And thank you to Donna Geer for sharing with us memories of her son Dave who had passed away earlier in the year.

A special presentation was made by the Mass General Child Life Department honoring Sue for her dedication to the children and their families over the past 15 years.  Sue was presented with a painting which portrayed children surrounding her.  This proudly hangs in the Angels Above Store and a copy is also in a section of the playroom on Ellison 18 which has been named "Kimberly's Corner".

We are currently planning our 11th Twilight Affair which will be on Sunday, November 4th.  We hope you will join us and be part of a wonderful evening.

Pictures of the 2011 Twilight Affair can be viewed on our website.

Santa and Mrs. Claus Spread Cheer to the Pediatric Floors!

Last December, the children received a very special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Some of the children, too excited when they heard who was coming, waited outside their room to get a peak at Santa.  With the help of Mrs. Claus, Santa made his way around the pediatric floors spreading cheer and handing out gifts to all the children.  A catered holiday lunch was provided for the children, families, and staff.  The smiles that day were priceless!

Until next time... spring2011
                 be well, enjoy each day,
                      and keep smiling!!
